On our way to Cambodia

Caley and I have been friends since we were babies. About 5 months prior to our trip, she called me and wanted to come visit me in Hawaii for the second time. I proposed the idea of coming to Asia with me instead, and she was on board! Caley will be here for about 10 days before she heads back to her 4 year old son in Pennsylvania.

We flew China Southern Air and had a pretty good experience. We lucked out and got all three seats to ourselves. Whenever I fly overseas on an international airline I am reminded of how much US airlines suck compared to everyone else. About 13 hours into the flight I met a man from China who lived in Hawaii and attended the University of Hawaii for his Mater’s degree. We were excited and high-fived each other.

We finally arrived at the Siam Reap International Airport and everything went really smooth. We got a 30 day Visa on Arrival and it cost $30.00 USD. Our Tuk Tuk driver arrived to pick us up and took us to our guesthouse, the Babel Guesthouse.

The guest house was great! I am now staying somewhere for 10.00 instead of 25.00…its not as nice but still pretty good for the price!

Melanie, there’s a certain very special joy I have felt on only a very few occasions in my life. It has always happened when I was completely alone, somewhere beautiful, where no one knew me and no one one really knew where I was… Usually I was outdoors… It’s a kind of freedom that would hit me and instead of feeling lonely, I felt like I could truly breathe. I hope hope hope you get to feel this way sometimes…just Melanie, where you are, with the world waiting for you!

We are thinking of you xxx

Thanks Sarah! I also always feel at peace in nature and very close to my dad. Caley left yesterday and now I am really on my own. I will keep you updated but so far I am feeling pretty happy!
