Koh Rong Samloem was breathtaking. Caley and I stayed at The Saracen Bay Resort which was amazing. Our bungalow cost $45.00 which was probably one of the most expensive ones on the island but also one of the nicest. I figured once Caley left I would be staying in cheap guest houses so I may as well enjoy the islands. The guest house was directly on the beach and we had an awesome deck to take naps on and enjoy our view.
We met some travelers who wanted to go on a “Night Jungle Trek/hike” to Sunset Beach, which was on the other side of the island. We had heard that the hike was pretty straight forward but could be challenging in the dark on the way back to the bungalow. Because of this, we decided to pay the $5.oo to our gorgeous and half dressed Australian guide named Bradley. (I have never been as interested in termite mounds than I was on that hike!) Sunset Beach was absolutely stunning and I don’t really have words for it.
I found a hammock under the pier and I could have stayed there all night! After it got dark, the five of us did a quick hike up to the only bungalow on the beach, Robinson Bungalows to have dinner. I felt like I was on some private hippy commune from a different time. The few people that were there longed around, slept, talked, ate, listened to music and enjoyed activities that made the place smell even better than it did before. As an observer, I felt like time had stopped and before I knew it, it was 9:00 pm and we still had a jungle hike ahead of us.
Bradley gave us all flashlights and led our little group back to Saracen Bay. I decided to pose on a log crossing the river for a photo and Bradley definitely earned his $5.00 after saving me from falling into the water!
